About the Author

Linda Carman Copel, Ph.D. R.N., C.S., N.C.C, C.G.P, D.A.P.A. Associate Professor, Villanova University, Villanova, PA 19085.

Dr. Copel received a BSN from the University of Delaware, an MSN (in Adult Health Advanced Clinical Practice/Education) from the University of Texas at Arlington, an MSMFT (in Marriage and Family Therapy) from Texas Woman's University, and a PhD (in Nursing Research and Theory Development/ Psychology) from Texas Woman's University. She currently teaches in the graduate, undergraduate and continuing education programs at Villanova University, and at a variety of hospital and community-based health education and health promotion programs.

Her clinical areas are psychiatric/mental health nursing, adult heath nursing, community mental health, and individual and group marriage and family therapy. She is certified as an advanced practice nurse in adult psychiatric mental health nursing by ANCC, as a National Certified Counselor by the NCCB, as a Family Life Educator by NCFR, as a Certified Group Psychotherapist by AGFA, and as a certified psychotherapist by the APA. In addition she has earned the designation of diplomate from the American Psychotherapy Association. She has published research on intimate partner violence, women's health issues, women with disabilities, and loneliness. Her other areas of interest include clinical practice, family dynamics, group process, concept analysis, and the development of conceptual models.
